The Institute of Power Electronics and Electric Drives of Fuzhou University is mainly engaged in innovative researches including Power Electronic Converting Techniques, Electric Drive Systems, New Energy Generation Technologies and Aviation Power Systems. The current director of the institute is Prof. Chen Daolian, a leading talent of the National Hundred Thousand Ten Thousand Talents Program, and National Outstanding Professional and Technical Personnel. As the affiliated unit of Fujian Power Supply Society, the institute aims to build Power Electronics and Electric Drives into an advanced high-level disciplinary in China and to cultivate senior specialized professionals at all levels including postdoctoral, doctoral, graduate and undergraduate students.
The institute has a strong faculty with reasonable structures in age and knowledge. Among them, there are 4 professors (doctoral supervisors), 3 associate professors and 2 lecturers. Prof. Chen Daolian, an IEEE senior member, also serves as vice chairman of Power Electronics Branch of China Electrotechnical Society, executive member of China Power Supply Society and chairman of Fujian Power Supply Society.
The institute has gained many achievements in teaching and scientific research. It has undertaken 6 National Natural Science Foundation Programs (1 State Key Program), 2 National Doctoral Foundation Programs for Universities, 1 Fujian Natural Science Foundation Key Program, 4 Fujian Key Technology Programs, more than 20 Fujian Natural Science Foundation and High & New Technology Programs, 30 S &T Development Programs, and 5 Education Reform Projects. The institute won one second prize for State Technological Innovation Award, one first prize for Fujian Technological Innovation Award and about 10 ministerial teaching and technology progress awards. About 80 invention patents have been granted, together with over 200 journal papers and 10 authored and/or co-authored professional books published.
